The CE mark is mandatory for all toys sold in Europe. It means that the safety norms designed to protect children from potential hazard caused by certain toys have been respected.
However, this marking is applied by the manufacturer or the importer as a "presumption of conformity": he does not have to prove it... Even if the majority of manufacturers are honest, some imported toys are in fact not compliant. To eliminate any doubt with respect to the conformity of the products, the best way is to submit the toys to an independent test laboratory, approved by the European Commission.
