Here’s The Best TV Show to Help Your Baby Learn [And 5 Reasons Why]

By | May 10, 2019

There is so much media targeted toward our children – and more importantly at us as parents as we’re the decision makers in the household.

When you can’t be reading to your child or teaching them something on your own, what kind of television is okay to put on and sit them in front of?

There are plenty of interactive systems and movies that promise that they are the best choice for teaching your child. But what is the best show to plop them down in front of? You don’t want them consuming garbage, but you don’t want them watching some boring show that some pseudo-child psychologist champions as the best program for children. You need them to watch something educational and fun!

In my opinion, there is nothing better than the classics, so that’s why I think that Sesame Street is the best TV show out there for your kids. And here’s a few reasons why:

Diverse Cast

One of the best parts about this show is the diverse cast. You want your child to be familiar with people of different colors, backgrounds, and ages! This will help prevent awkward moments with your child when they see someone different for the first time. Plus, this allows your child to develop curiosity and interest in other people different than them, rather than a dislike or discomfort.

This show shows children what the world is actually like. There are tons of other people different than them; this show will teach them that!

The Little Spanish Sheep!

Speaking of people who are different than us, wouldn’t you like to learn how to speak another language? Learning languages is one of the best ways to get your kid to start developing a healthy brain. Sesame Street has a character, a lamb, who speaks Spanish with her pal!

One of the best ways to learn a new language is to watch people speak on TV! This is how a lot of people who are learning a language learn colloquialisms and slang that they wouldn’t otherwise be taught in a language class.

Having your child watch a show that introduces them to another language early on will help them start to think about language differently. Plus, Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the US and being bilingual looks great on college (and job) applications!

Life Lessons

Sesame Street isn’t just teaching your child book smarts, but social intelligence too!

There are plenty of scenarios in the show that give children great examples of communication, empathy, and conflict resolution. Having your child watch a show with real people communicating and solving problems effectively will give them a great example to model themselves after.

Characters You Know and Love

No more weird characters and quirky cartoons with this show. With this show, you’ll watch your child grow and learn with characters that you recognize from your own childhood! Your 2-year-old will never accost you for getting their favorite character’s name wrong when it’s Big Bird!!!

Lastly… It’s Bareable!!!

Kid’s shows are so annoying now. I can hardly be in the same room with my toddler while they watch Teen Titans GO! I can’t do it. I just can’t. Their voices make my brain melt.

But when my kid is watching sesame street, I can’t help but sing along with the songs and feel sentimental when Oscar pops up out of his trash can.
